Tanya's
start-up strategy
How
I got Started:
I
had never considered any kind of party plan business in the past,
but when I attended my very first SLAH party, I signed up as a
consultant the next morning! I was drawn to the brand name
recognition, the focus on home & family, the mission of
hospitality & generosity, and it was a perfect opportunity for
me to exercise my creativity within a home-based business that is
ideal for stay-at-home moms.
I
chose to focus on fundraising parties and home parties within my
community, and have been able to grow personally and
professionally from each experience.
Top Startup Strategy
Just
jump in and do it! Take action right away -- I jumped right
in and started following my instincts for what I wanted to achieve
from my own business. I utilized all the resources
available, participated in team business-building activities, and
started booking parties. I continue to tell every customer
that my business is built upon referrals, and ask that they pass
along the catalogs to others who may be interested.
Best
Business Move
Personalizing
the “cookie cutter” party plan to what works best for me and
my goals. Incorporating my own style & flair into my
home party presentations, and seeking out community connections to
offer fundraising opportunities… these things are personally
gratifying to me and have helped grow my business. In
addition, I have gained invaluable connections and new friendships
I treasure.
Working
From Home
Favorite Thing About Working From Home
I
love being the President/CEO of my very own company! It is a
totally empowering and uplifting experience. It gives voice
and wings to my most secret, personal aspirations.
Top Tip for Balancing Business & Family/Life
I’m
still working on the balancing act, but the beauty of this business is that I
can determine what (& which) hours I WANT to work each week. My goal is
full-time pay for part-time work, which is very achievable with a little
organization and planning.

Biggest Obstacle to Your Business Success & How You Overcame
It
My
biggest obstacle was a basic fear of people and social events! I used to
be the wallflower who never spoke until spoken to... Now it is my business
to host parties and become the center of attention, as I present the products
and services offered by Southern Living at HOME! I just kept
doing the very thing I was most afraid of
doing, over and over again, until the fear shrank to a tiny little buzz (like an
annoying gnat) that I rarely notice anymore. It has been a huge turnaround
for me that has enriched my life.

What I Love Most About Being a
biz-eWoman
This
is what I love MOST about my business: It has been a tremendous personal growth
experience. I'm learning that hospitality is not so much about a place,
it's more about inviting others into our lives, and making them feel welcome…
And that generosity is a way of life.

Can
you feel the passion? Tanya has taken her business to
"heart" literally. Her drive and enthusiasm
as well as a commitment to helping others are just a few of the
qualities that this busy woman has that are rocketing her to

Where
will your
business idea come from? Perhaps you'll create a product or service that
serves the needs of busy people. Or you might find entrepreneurial
inspiration from a hobby or a passion. Maybe you'll convert work
experience into a home-based opportunity. There are so many
possibilities!
